Terms of Use

Effective November 2, 2026 · Updated November 6, 2026

The short version:

  • Pathnote is free to use. Pro adds paid features, with a 14-day free trial the first time you install it.
  • Changed your mind? Ask within 14 days of buying for a full refund.
  • Blurring helps, but it can miss things. Check your guides before you share them.

These terms are an agreement between you and Useful Geeks LLC ("we", "us") about the Pathnote app and this website. By installing or using Pathnote, you agree to them. If you're using Pathnote for your employer or a client, you're agreeing on their behalf and confirm you're allowed to.

1. Your license to use Pathnote

Pathnote is licensed, not sold. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Pathnote, including for work and for clients. You may not:

Pathnote includes third-party components under their own open-source licenses, which apply to those components.

2. Free, trial, and Pro

We may change which features are in Free and Pro for future versions, but we won't take a feature away from a Pro plan you've already paid for during the period you paid for.

3. Buying Pro

Purchases are processed by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar handles payment, sales tax, and VAT, and the Polar terms also apply to the purchase itself. Prices are shown on our pricing section and at checkout.

Pathnote checks your key with Polar about once a day. If it can't reach Polar, Pro keeps working for up to 30 days from the last successful check.

4. Refunds

If Pathnote Pro isn't right for you, email support@usefulgeeks.com within 14 days of your purchase, or of a renewal charge, and we'll refund it in full. No reason needed. After a refund, the license key stops working and Pathnote goes back to Free.

After 14 days, payments aren't refundable, except where the law says otherwise or where we decide to make an exception.

If you're a consumer in the EU or UK, you normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from online purchases. Our refund policy gives you at least the same.

5. Your content and responsibility

Your guides, screenshots, and exports are yours. We don't claim any rights in them, and we don't receive them.

Blurring sensitive info is a help, not a guarantee. It uses text recognition, which can miss text that is small, stylized, or low-contrast, and it only knows the names you add to your Words list. You are responsible for checking each guide before you share it, and for having the right to record and share what's on your screen.

6. Third-party services

AI step descriptions use your own Anthropic API key. Your use of Anthropic's API is between you and Anthropic, under their terms, and any charges are billed by Anthropic to you. We're not responsible for third-party services, including GitHub, Polar, and Anthropic.

7. Updates

Pathnote updates itself when a new version is out. Updates may add, change, or remove features, subject to section 2.

8. Warranty disclaimer

Pathnote is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't promise that Pathnote will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that it will find every piece of sensitive information.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or business, arising from Pathnote. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for Pathnote in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50 if you haven't paid anything.

Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer protection laws in your country give you and that can't be waived.

10. Ending these terms

You can stop using Pathnote and uninstall it at any time. If you seriously break these terms, for example by sharing or reselling license keys, we may disable your key. Sections 5, 8, 9, and 11 continue to apply after these terms end.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer in the EU, UK, or another country whose laws give you the right to bring claims at home, you keep that right.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date above, and for significant changes we'll also mention them in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Pathnote after a change means you accept the new terms.
