Terms of Service
Effective November 5, 2026
In short: Pathnote's free version is free to use, and Pro is licensed per key on up to 3 computers. You own what you make with it. Blurring helps you share safely, but you're still responsible for checking what you share. You can get a refund within 14 days of any purchase.
These terms are an agreement between you and Useful Geeks LLC ("we" or "us") for the Pathnote desktop app and getpathnote.com. If you use Pathnote for an organization, you agree to them on its behalf. By installing or using Pathnote, you accept these terms.
1. Your license to use Pathnote
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Pathnote for personal or business use, including client work.
- Free version. Free to use with no time limit. Some exports include a small "Made with Pathnote" line.
- Trial. The first time you install Pathnote on a computer, you get 14 days of Pro features at no cost and with no card. Reinstalling doesn't start a new trial. When the trial ends, Pathnote switches to the free version.
- Pro. A Pro license key turns on the Pro features for as long as your license is active, on up to 3 computers at a time. You can move a key by removing it from one computer and entering it on another.
2. Buying Pro
Pro is sold through Polar (polar.sh), which acts as merchant of record and processes payment and taxes. Polar's checkout terms also apply to your purchase. Prices are shown on getpathnote.com and at checkout.
- Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel any time from your Polar purchases page. Pro keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for, then Pathnote goes back to the free version. Nothing you made is deleted.
- Lifetime is a single payment. It unlocks Pro, including future updates, for as long as we offer Pathnote.
- If we change prices, the change won't apply to a period you've already paid for. We'll give subscribers notice before a new price takes effect at renewal.
3. Refunds
You can get a full refund within 14 days of any purchase, without giving a reason. See the Refund Policy for how.
4. What you can't do
- Share, resell, or publish license keys, or use one key on more computers than your plan allows.
- Work around or disable license checks, trial limits, or the "Made with Pathnote" line.
- Copy, resell, or redistribute Pathnote itself, except by pointing people to getpathnote.com.
- Reverse engineer Pathnote, except where the law allows it regardless of this restriction.
- Use Pathnote to break the law or to capture information you don't have the right to capture.
5. Your content
You own the guides, screenshots, and recordings you make with Pathnote. We don't receive them, and these terms give us no rights to them.
You're responsible for what you record and share. Blur sensitive info is a tool to help you, not a guarantee. It can miss things, such as information in unusual formats, small or stylized text, or names that aren't in your Words list. Always review a guide before you share it.
6. Third-party services
Some features rely on services we don't control: Polar for licenses, GitHub for updates, and, if you turn it on, Anthropic for AI step descriptions. AI step descriptions use your own Anthropic API key, so Anthropic's terms apply and Anthropic bills you directly for that usage. AI-written descriptions can be wrong, so check them before you rely on them. The Privacy Policy explains what each service receives.
7. Updates and changes
Pathnote updates itself when a new version is out. We may add, change, or remove features over time. If we remove a Pro feature you've paid for, we'll offer a prorated refund for the time left on your subscription.
8. Ending this agreement
You can stop using Pathnote and uninstall it at any time. If you seriously break these terms, for example by sharing or reselling license keys, we may deactivate the keys involved. Sections 5, 9, 10, and 11 continue to apply after this agreement ends.
9. No warranty
Pathnote is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't promise that Pathnote will be error-free, will run without interruption, or will find every piece of sensitive information.
10. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or the exposure of information you chose to share. Our total liability for any claim about Pathnote is limited to the amount you paid us for Pathnote in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Georgia, and you and we both agree to their jurisdiction. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer protection laws where you live.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with a new date. If a change is significant, we'll also note it in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Pathnote after that means you accept the updated terms.
